summary of AGRIFAC

Agrifac makes large agricultural machines that are equipped with a huge liquid tank of 8,000 litres. By opting for a different production process (rotational moulding) and different material (plastic instead of composite), we ensured that the production of the liquid tanks became simpler, faster, more environmentally aware, less laborious and cheaper. Our ambition was to expand the product family in a consistent way. The future-proof design for the Condor Endurance delivered 'Good Industrial Design 2014'.

Agrifac wanted to optimise the production process of existing (liquid) tanks in their agricultural machines. They asked Scope Design to explore the possibilities for this, taking into account a wide range of technical constraints and requirements, both in design and functionality. By opting for a different production process (rotational moulding) and different material (plastic instead of composite), we ensured that the production of the liquid tanks became simpler, faster, more environmentally aware, less laborious and cheaper. Our design had to be very strong and rigid because of the eight tons of liquid content. After all, during braking this mass moves forward and creates enormous pressure in all directions.

The approach of the project

The demand from Agrifac Machinery BV was a great challenge for Scope, especially given the size of the machines. Scope developed one of the largest rotational cast parts in Europe. Scope makes continuous use of prototypes on a real scale during the design process to be able to estimate the quality and feasibility of the result. This machine was a challenge for this machine of around 2.5 meters wide, four meters high and eight meters long. By printing out the design one on one and hanging it up, we were able to simulate this. By analysing existing machines in the assembly hall at Agrifac, we learned more about how all parts of the machine work, about the appearance of the machines and how they function .

THE DESIGN RESULT

Agrifac is a strong international brand that has earned its stripes over the years. Scope has included this in the sketches for the new Condor Endurance. Our ambition was to expand the product family in a consistent way. At the Condor Endurance we have therefore followed the line in the designs of the previous machines. Within that solid foundation, we made a more future-oriented design that is innovative in terms of appearance and functionality.

It resulted in a 'Good Industrial Design 2014 ' award.
